What is Mezavant used for?

When MEZAVANT is taken for a flare up of ulcerative colitis, it acts through the entire colon and rectum to treat the inflammation and reduce symptoms. MEZAVANT can also be taken to help prevent re-occurrence of ulcerative colitis.

Is Mezavant and mesalamine the same?

Mezavant 1.2g is a higher-strength, delayed and extended-release tablet formulation of mesalamine, a drug also known as 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). active, mild to moderate ulcerative colitis (UC), and when effective can lead to a remission the disease.

When should you take Mezavant?

Mezavant XL is intended for once daily, oral administration. The tablets must not be crushed or chewed and should be taken with food. For induction of remission: 2.4 g to 4.8 g (two to four tablets) should be taken once daily.

Is salofalk the same as mesalazine?

Anecdotally people with IBD have reported hair loss when taking some medications to treat IBD. However, there have been no in depth studies carried out in this area. Common side effects listed for both Mesalazine and Methotrexate include hair loss.

What are the side effects of salofalk?

Mild effects:

  • excessive gas in the stomach or bowel.
  • increased number of bowel motions.
  • diarrhoea.
  • nausea (feeling sick)
  • rash or itchy skin.
  • dizziness.

Does mesalamine weaken the immune system?

Mesalamine base drugs are safe and do not suppress the immune system. These include : Asacol, Delzicol, Colazal, Balsalazide, Pentasa, Salofalk, Lialda and Apriso. The overall infection risk is low.

Does Mezavant cause dark urine?
